Mike Greene was born in Brooklyn NY, and grew up in the 50’s and 60’s listening to the blues, gospel and rythm & blues on the Harlem radio WWRL. As a boy, his first musical memories are of his mother playing the “St. Louis blues” on the family piano. Learning the guitar, he played in several bands until 1970, when he expatriated because of the Vietnam war.
In his travels he met and played with many musicians in several countries. His first band in France, “Dirty Grits” hit off it’s career with 150 gigs the first year on the road (1993).
His band, “Bulldog Gravy” was recognised as a totally new form of blues in the US and Europe, and toured extensively through Europe from 2004 – 2007. (Poland tour November 2005. Toruń blues Meeting, Białystok festival…)
He has played in many different groups and solo performances as well. His inborn knowledge of American music, whether it be folk, blues, country, or rock, and his capacities on several instruments (guitar, mandoline, banjo, accordeon), his talent as a songwriter, his
strong and warm voice, as well as his long experience in the concert realm make him an excellent showman. Has played with Louisiana Red, support for Luther Allison, Tony Joe White, 9 Below Zero, and several tours in Poland with Leszek Cichoński and Lukasz Wisniewski.
Prefering feeling to cold technique, his refusal of clichés and conventions, offers an original and authentic approach to the blues in all it’s many facettes.
Whatever the repertoire, his natural charisma and his personal approach to the music make his concerts moments of exception.
