Gianni Gagliardi Quartet

Barcelona tenor saxophonist Gianni Gagliardi is joined by a unique group of international musicians for his first concert tour of Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic in March 2020.  Members of the quartet are each accomplished band-leaders, composers, winners of many international awards, and have performed on stages throughout Europe and the United States with a ‚who’s who’ of Modern Jazz.  Gianni Gagliardi Quartet consists of:

Gianni Gagliardi:


Barcelona native Gianni Gagliardi “Is now a rising star on the Brooklyn jazz scene”, as noted by Ron Netsky of the Rochester City Newspaper. His unique sound, originality, and artistic integrity have enabled him to perform all around the world in extremely diverse situations, ranging from jazz to flamenco music with greats as Al Foster, John Clayton, Dick Oats, Gilad Hekselman or Jordi Rossy. He has been at Berklee College of Music, State University of New York, Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Conservatoire National Superior de musique et dance de Paris. Gianni is the founder of BCN Jazz Collective, a label and platform for young composers to publish and promote their works. He has recorded extensively as a sideman and as a leader with great appraisal from the international press.” Gagliardi delivers music that’s distinct and bracing. Xavi Torres:

Spanish pianist virtuoso Xavi Torres (1991) is one of the most outstanding young musicians on the European scene. He currently lives in Amsterdam and became the second Spanish musician ever to enter the semifinals of the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition in December 2018 (after Jorge Rossy on 1992). He studied both classical and jazz in Barcelona and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and won several prices, including the Dutch Jazz Competition, the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award and the Getxo International Jazz Competition. He has recorded more than 30 albums (including 3 as a leader with the Xavi Torres Trio) and played with people like Alex Sipiagin, Dick Oatts, Terell Stafford, Nir Felder, Tineke Postma, Rosanne Philippens, and Ben van Gelder. He has played in some of the most prestigious festivals and halls around the world, including North Sea Jazz Festival, Cape Town Jazz Festival, Eurojazz Mexico Festival, Siena Jazz Festival, Bimhuis- overall more than 130 concerts every year. His playing, specially featured on the newest Solo album “Curiosity”, combines a variety of styles and influences, featuring a lot of freedom, energy and depth.

Mike Parker:

A native of New York, Mike began his professional career at the age of 17 playing funk and rock gigs in New York City clubs. Now at the age of 31, he has toured all over Europe and America with both jazz and rock groups, won several international contests and awards, studied with and played with some of the greatest musicians alive, and released 4 albums of his own compositions.  Mike attended Skidmore College where he studied Evolutionary Psychology and Music and spent a semester abroad studying Jazz Bass at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He studied with such notable bassists as Scott Colley, Reid Anderson, and Reubin Rogers and had the opportunity to perform with some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians, including John Scofield, Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez, and Eric Harland.  After graduating, Mike traveled extensively around Europe before settling in Krakow, Poland where he discovered a young and vibrant jazz scene. Mike now calls both New York and Krakow home when he is not on tour. He performs on both upright and electric bass as a member of several touring groups including the ‚Nat Osborn Band’ and his own ‚Unified Theory’, ‚Trio Theory’, and ‚Meta’ projects. He has recently performed with such notable musicians as Marc Ducret, Marc Bernstein, Dominik Wania, Chris Weller, and Devin Gray among others.

Jesse Simpson:

Jesse Simpson is a drummer and pianist from Graton, CA based in Brooklyn, NY. After growing up performing around the San Francisco Bay Area, studying with legendary drummer Donald Bailey, he moved to New York in 2007 to attend the Manhattan School of Music, graduating in 2010. Since that time, Jesse has performed alongside Louie Bellson, backed comedians Fred Armisen and Janeane Garafalo and played with Marc Copland, Kevin Hays, Joe Lovano, John Abercrombie, Chris Cheek and many more. He regularly performs in New York as well as on tour with many different groups in Europe.
