VAG Fusion Chat is a completely new musical face of the group’s founder. Pianist Wojtek Groborz has an established reputation as a be-bop stylist, but tonight he will break that convention. The leader’s formative years were in the 1970s, the era of fusion music, and it is this style that will be heard at the first VAG Fusion Chat concert.
The group includes musicians who have never performed together before. Guitarist Franciszek Derkowski and bassist Bartek Matyasik are students at the Jazz Department of the Cracow Music Academy, while drummer Artur Palusz was spotted by Groborz as an accompanist for a group of breakdancers performing at the Cracow Main Square. The only musician previously performing with the leader is percussionist Marcin Polanski.
There will be Fusion, a pinch of Funk, a spice of Latino, man-friendly improvisations; it will be rhythmic, dynamic and electric – in Wojtek Groborz’s case, for the first time since Jarek Smietana’s Extra Ball, i.e. after more than 40 years of playing mainly on acoustic piano.
